FORT WORTH, TX – In a devastating incident early Sunday morning, five people lost their lives in a wrong-way crash on Loop 820 in Fort Worth, according to police reports. The deadly collision occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m., involving a Ford Focus carrying a family of four and a pickup truck.
Authorities reported that the Ford Focus was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Loop 820 when it crashed head-on into an oncoming pickup truck near Marine Creek Parkway. The impact caused the car to erupt into flames, resulting in the deaths of a man, a woman, and two children who were inside. The crash also claimed the life of a woman in the pickup, while her fiancé survived but sustained broken bones.
The surviving male from the pickup remains hospitalized as investigators work to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the reason for the car traveling in the wrong direction and whether alcohol played a role.
Tracy Carter, a public information officer for the Fort Worth Police Department, expressed sorrow and concern over this recurring issue. “This is a sad day,” Carter remarked, noting the personal impact such incidents have on law enforcement following the August death of Sergeant Billy Randolph, a Fort Worth officer killed by a wrong-way driver.
As officers seek to prevent further tragedies, they advise drivers on late-night roads to stay vigilant by keeping an eye on the horizon and using the far-right lane. In the event of encountering a wrong-way vehicle, flashing high beams and pulling over could offer safety and potentially avert disaster.
The identities of those involved in Sunday’s crash have not yet been made public. Investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to the incident, hoping to gain more clarity in the coming days.
Carter extended thoughts and prayers for the families affected and expressed gratitude to the medical staff and officers who responded to the horrific scene. “We’re praying for all the medical personnel and the officers because this was a horrific scene,” he said.
