Five-year-old shot and killed during haircut

BESSEMER, AL – A 5-year-old boy died on Sunday while getting a haircut, after a shooting at the residence where he was present. Two individuals are presently in custody related to the case, with a third suspect still on the loose.

The victim, identified as Brandon Jamal Nation III by the Jefferson County Coroner’s office, was with his mother at a house in Bessemer, Alabama for a haircut when shots were fired at the location, local police reported to AL.com. Det. Justin Burmeister of the Bessemer police department stated that the shots came from outside the house, targeting that specific location.

Brandon was immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention but sadly succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. Another adult male, identified as the barber, was also injured during the incident and is presently in critical condition.

On the tragic death of the young boy, Burmeister said, “It’s terrible. Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly challenging time.” As per police sources, two suspects- Kendrick O’Neal, 26, and Tatyonna Estacia Smith- have been taken into custody and charged in relation to the killing of the child.

Jefferson County Jail records confirm that O’Neal and Smith are both facing charges of attempted murder, capital murder of a person under the age of 14 and capital murder committed from outside a dwelling. Their legal representation has not been disclosed as yet.

Kedarrius Odell Mack, 25, is the third suspect who is wanted on similar charges but has not been located by authorities. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to get in touch with the Bessemer police or the tip line.
