Florida Father, 17-Year-Old Twins Found Dead in Home

Orange County deputies believe the father killed his teenage children before dying by suicide in an apparent murder-suicide.

ORANGE COUNTY, FL — A father and his 17-year-old twins were found dead inside a Central Florida home during a well-being check, and investigators believe the father killed the teenagers before dying by suicide, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went to a residence in the 1200 block of Courtney Chase Circle on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Inside, they found the twins, identified by authorities as Carlo Montiel Infantino and Melanie Montiel Infantino, dead in the living room. Investigators said both teenagers had suffered multiple stab wounds. Their father, Ivan Montiel Roa, was also found dead elsewhere in the home. Detectives are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.

The Sheriff’s Office said detectives believe Roa killed Carlo and Melanie before taking his own life. Authorities have not publicly identified a motive or explained what may have happened before the deaths. Officials also had not announced when they believe the family members died before deputies arrived for the well-being check.

Local news reports differed on the precise location where Roa was found inside the residence. WESH, WFTV and ClickOrlando reported that he was discovered in a master bathroom, while an initial FOX 35 report described the location as the master bedroom. The Sheriff’s Office investigation remains open, and authorities have not released further details that resolve that discrepancy.

The circumstances that prompted the well-being check also remained unclear in the information released by authorities. Deputies have not publicly said who requested the check or whether investigators had received earlier reports involving the family. No information about a possible sequence of events before the deaths has been released.

Orange County Public Schools said administrators were notified of the deaths of two students, according to WESH. The district said grief counselors were being made available following the deaths. Authorities have not released additional information about the teenagers’ school lives or other personal details.

State Rep. Rita Harris, who lives near the area where the deaths occurred, told WESH that the loss was devastating, particularly because the victims were so young. Her comments reflected the shock surrounding the deaths as investigators continued working to determine what happened inside the home.

Several Central Florida news organizations reported the case Friday after the Sheriff’s Office released information identifying the three family members. The accounts consistently identified Carlo and Melanie as 17-year-old twins and Roa as their father, and reported that detectives believe he was responsible for their deaths before his own.

Investigators have not announced evidence establishing why the teenagers were killed, and no motive has been made public. Authorities also have not released a detailed timeline showing when the family members were last known to be alive or how much time passed between the deaths and the discovery of their bodies.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing. As of Saturday, authorities had not publicly announced additional findings about the circumstances surrounding the deaths or a motive for the killings.
