An elderly woman aged 82 years old was declared dead by authorities at a nursing home located in Long Island, New York. However, it was discovered that she was still alive nearly three hours later at a funeral home.
On Saturday, at 11:15 a.m., the Suffolk County police reported that the woman had passed away at Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson. Later that afternoon, her body was transported to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place.
However, to everyone’s surprise, she was discovered to be still alive at 2:09 p.m.
The police have not made the identity of the woman public, and she was taken to a hospital after being found alive.
Suffolk County police and the New York State Department of Health are conducting an investigation into the case. The health department is unable to provide additional information due to the ongoing investigation.
The New York state attorney general’s office released a statement about this shocking discovery. They said, “This is an awful situation that caused unnecessary trauma for the impacted resident and her loved ones.”
Recently, an occurrence similar to this was reported in Iowa. Officials reported that in December, a 66-year-old woman was found still alive inside a body bag despite having been declared dead.
