Grandpa shoots 19-year-old granddaughter in the head

ST. LOUIS, MO – Authorities have charged a 74-year-old man following a dramatic and troubling incident in south St. Louis involving a family dispute that turned violent. Late Monday evening, Pierre Irving was taken into custody after allegedly shooting his 19-year-old granddaughter amid a heated disagreement in their shared apartment on South Broadway.

On the night of the altercation, Irving reportedly became furious while discussing cleanliness with the woman’s mother. In a fit of anger, witnesses say the situation escalated when Irving retrieved a firearm from his bedroom.

Upon returning to the common area, he opened fire, initially missing the mother but tragically hitting his granddaughter.

First responders quickly arrived at the River Bluff Manor apartments, where they found the young woman gravely injured and suffering from a gunshot wound to her head. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical and unstable condition.

Investigators noted that surveillance footage from a Ring doorbell captured Irving exiting the apartment after the shooting. In the video, he is seen entering the hallway and handing his weapon to a neighbor, a detail that contributed to his arrest.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has filed multiple serious charges against Irving, including two counts of armed criminal action and two counts of first-degree assault. He is currently held without bail, awaiting legal proceedings. As of now, no date has been set for his initial court appearance.

The community remains in shock as they grapple with the aftermath of the family’s tragedy.
