High school student dies after being stabbed in parking lot

SANDY, UT – A high school student was fatally stabbed on Friday evening, leading to the arrest of a suspect who is also a minor. The fighting incident reportedly happened around 9 p.m. at the southwestern parking lot of the Mountain America Expo Center on 9575 S. State Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found a teenage boy suffering from a stab wound. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the teenager later succumbed to his injuries.

The quick actions of a witness led to the identification and detention of the suspect. The suspect, a minor, was arrested and is now held in custody. The identity of the victim, known to be a student at Jordan High School, has not been released to the public.

In response to the incident, Jordan High School Principal Bruce Eschler penned a note to the parents of the students. Noting the emotional toll that such tragic events can have on young students, he highlighted the different ways children may express their emotions during grieving.

In order to provide emotional support for students, the administration at Jordan High and Canyons School District has arranged for counseling services. Students can find consolation and guidance from school psychologists, counselors, and social workers available on Saturday at the school.
