HOUSTON, TX – In a distressing home invasion incident in Southeast Houston on Thursday, a pregnant woman was assaulted by a knife-bearing intruder in her own house. Lily Garza, eight months pregnant, was taking a nap in the absence of her husband, Cesar Garza, who was at work at the time of the incident.
Caught on their home security camera, chronicles of the invasion unfolded as a middle-aged man donning a baseball cap was seen repeatedly attempting to breach the Garza residence until he finally slipped through an open window. He then proceeded to the upstairs bedroom, clearly visible in the security footage, where he started rummaging through the drawers.
After waking up to an intruder in her bedroom, Lily attempted to run away, only to be chased downstairs and violently flung onto the ground by the neck. During the ordeal, Lily’s repeated exclamations of her pregnancy can be heard, met with the intruder’s demands for money. Offering her iPhone, Apple Watch, and jewelry, including her wedding ring, Lily was coerced into surrendering personal possessions.
Despite the intruder pushing her to return upstairs, she managed to rush outside and alert her neighbors, driving the culprit away from the premises.
With assistance from neighbors and family, Lily was transferred to Hermann Hospital. Her husband, Cesar, reported on Friday that both she and their baby are safe. The couple is now focused on capturing the intruder. They hope to retrieve their wedding ring, possibly from a local pawn shop.
The Garza’s baby is due to be born in late September.
