House storing fireworks explodes

DARTMOUTH, MA – A quiet neighborhood in Dartmouth was jolted awake in the early hours when a series of fireworks exploded, sending debris flying and causing significant damage. Residents on Sagamore Drive described the scene as chaotic, with flashes of light and loud bangs reminiscent of a bomb blast.

Ed, a local resident, recounted the terrifying moment when a box of fireworks soared into his backyard. “It sounded like a bomb going off,” he said, noting the bright flash that passed by his window. The explosions continued for several seconds, scattering fragments across the area.

The fire department responded swiftly after receiving multiple 911 calls. Upon arrival, they found that a garage, a boat, a car, and part of a house had been destroyed in the blasts. Ed mentioned that the force of the explosion was so strong it knocked pictures off his walls.

Investigators spent hours combing through the rubble, collecting bags of evidence. Neighbors revealed that the homeowner was known for hosting fireworks displays every summer for the past 15 to 20 years. “We were all very concerned it could spread and damage other houses,” one neighbor shared.

Fortunately, the damage did not extend to surrounding homes. The affected house is now boarded up, and investigators have concluded their initial examination of the site.

Despite the extensive property damage, only one person was seriously injured in the incident. They are expected to recover, providing some relief to the shaken community.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with authorities looking into whether the fireworks were stored legally and safely. Residents are left grappling with the aftermath and the unsettling reminder of the potential dangers fireworks can pose.
