ANNANDALE, MN – An elderly man from Minnesota allegedly brutally stabbed his wife, resulting in her death. Rodney Anderson, aged 85, was arrested and charged with perpetrating the attack on his wife, Janet Louise Anderson, aged 83, at their residence in Annandale.
When they arrived at the scene of the crime, police officers found the woman lying on her back in her kitchen. She had multiple stab wounds to her abdomen and was bleeding severely. According to court documents, Anderson, reportedly admitted to the stabbing and told Annandale police, “I guess I lost my head.”
Anderson claimed the couple had a heated argument early Thursday morning but he was unsure whether his wife was still alive. Anderson himself reportedly alerted authorities at 9:54 a.m. and waited for their arrival outside his house.
The husband was seen trembling on the steps of his Knollwood Street West home, his hands resting on his head. Authorities subsequently discovered a blood-stained knife in the kitchen sink. Anderson confessed to the police that the couple, who had been married since 1958, were prone to regular arguments. He stated that during the heat of such an argument, he surmises he took the kitchen knife from the kitchen’s butcher block and stabbed her.
The complaint mentioned that Anderson confessed to stabbing his wife at least once, though he could not recollect the amount of force with which he stabbed her. Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the woman’s body still warm, but she was declared dead on arrival.
Anderson has been charged with second-degree murder, which could lead up to 40 years in prison upon conviction. Court documents revealed a bail of $1 million, and Anderson is currently being held at Wright County Jail. His next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
