Husband murders wife over fight about pancakes

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. prosecutors reported that an elderly man, Steven Schwartz, 85, killed his wife after a disagreement over pancakes. Schwartz is charged with stabbing his wife, Sharron Schwartz, 81, to death at their D.C. home. Reportedly, Schwartz acted out of resentment as he “did not want to eat the pancakes she made.”

Upon responding to a distress call about a stabbing on Sunday afternoon, the police found Sharron Schwartz gravely injured and Steven Schwartz with self-inflicted wounds. Both individuals were rushed to a hospital where Sharron couldn’t survive her injuries.

Based on the police affidavit filed in the D.C. criminal court, Steven Schwartz purportedly repulsed eating due to some aversion, which his wife wanted him to overcome leading to their argument. In a statement to the police, Schwartz mentioned his ongoing struggle with an eating disorder and depression, regretting his wife’s death and wishing that he were the one to die.

Further investigations revealed that Schwartz had nursed hopes that the deadly incident was just a hallucination, and he disclosed that he was recuperating from a stroke during that period. He also confirmed the couple’s 40-year-long marital journey.

Steven Schwartz is currently facing charges of second-degree murder while armed. Following his arraignment, the Superior Court judge ordered him to be held without bail. Schwartz’s preliminary hearing is set for January 2. As of now, there has been no response from his appointed attorney to a request for comments.
