Killer arrested after posting video of victim’s stabbing on Facebook

Authorities have apprehended a man in connection with a homicide in San Mateo after a disturbing video of a stabbing was posted on Facebook. On Wednesday, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a woman who had witnessed a video on Facebook depicting a stabbing incident. The caller promptly shared the name and contact details of the person responsible for posting the video. This allowed law enforcement to take swift action against the suspect responsible for this crime.

Deputies were able to trace the associated phone number to an apartment complex on the 200 block of 37th Avenue in San Mateo. The Nye County Sheriff’s Office immediately contacted the San Mateo Police, who initiated a thorough search of the complex.

During the extensive three-hour search, San Mateo Police discovered the lifeless body of a woman inside one of the apartments. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed by the authorities. Meanwhile, the suspect had already fled the scene. However, investigators managed to track down the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Mark Merchikoff of Pacifica, within two hours. The arrest in San Jose was executed without any resistance.

According to the police, Merchikoff was acquainted with the victim. While the motive behind the stabbing remains under investigation, law enforcement officials revealed that Merchikoff had callously filmed the victim’s final moments and shared the video on Facebook before fleeing the area. The police are urging anyone with relevant information or security footage to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
