Mall shootout leaves 7-year-old girl shot

BALTIMORE, MD – In a shocking incident at Mondawmin Mall, a 7-year-old girl was shot following a conflict between two groups within the mall. Authorities arrived at Liberty Avenue’s 2400 block just beyond 1:30 p.m. after receiving calls reporting gunfire.

Upon reaching the site, officers discovered the young girl who had sustained two gunshot wounds in her upper body. She was transported quickly to a nearby hospital for treatment. Currently, she remains in critical condition but has been deemed stable.

Post-investigation, it is understood that the incident ensued after an altercation among two sets of group members in the mall. An unidentified male involved in the skirmish shot multiple times while fleeing, inadvertently hitting the girl who was unintendedly caught within the line of fire.

At the time of the incident, the girl was accompanied by her mother. Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his outrage at the incident during a press conference, saying, “We cannot live in a world where people can’t, in Baltimore City, come to Mondawmin get snickerdoodles get a pretzel and just go about their lives.”

Mayor Scott asserted the city’s dedication towards finding the culprits behind this, saying, “We won’t stop until we find them. We will find them and turn them over to the other parts of the justice system.”

Baltimore Police are on the lookout for the suspect involved and request anyone with valuable information to reach out to the Western District Shooting detectives. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line.
