Investigators say electronic devices contained hundreds of AI-generated images and videos along with more than 150 invasive recordings of women and girls.
WEST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, PA — A 41-year-old King of Prussia Mall employee has been charged after police said an investigation uncovered hundreds of images and videos of AI-generated child sexual abuse material, other illegal sexual images involving children and more than 150 invasive recordings of women and teenage girls.
Robert Mayberry, of Prospect Park, faces multiple charges that include offenses related to depicting sexual acts involving children on a computer, possession of child sexual abuse material, invasion of privacy and criminal use of a communication facility, according to authorities and a criminal complaint cited by NBC10 Philadelphia. Mayberry has been arrested and released on bail. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The investigation began June 18 after a woman contacted West Goshen police and reported seeing disturbing photos and videos on Mayberry’s cellphone, investigators said. The woman told police the material included what appeared to be AI-generated sexual images involving children as well as invasive photos of women. She provided investigators with photographs she had taken of material displayed on the phone.
Police learned during the investigation that Mayberry worked at the King of Prussia Mall. Investigators obtained a search warrant and stopped him later that day while he was driving on Paoli Pike near the Route 202 ramps in West Goshen Township, according to the criminal complaint. Officers seized electronic devices and storage media, including an iPhone, a MacBook, a flash drive and SD cards.
Investigators examined the seized devices between June 26 and Aug. 14. Authorities said the searches uncovered hundreds of photos and videos they described as AI-generated child sexual abuse material. Police also said they found child sexual abuse material that was not generated by artificial intelligence and more than 150 videos secretly recorded beneath the clothing of women and teenage girls.
The criminal complaint alleges that recordings were made at several public locations, including the King of Prussia Mall, parks, a zoo, convenience stores and an aquarium. Authorities have not publicly identified the people shown in the recordings, and minors and private victims are not being named.
Police also described one case involving a teenage girl at West Goshen Community Park. Investigators allege Mayberry photographed the girl and then used Grok, an artificial intelligence service, to generate sexual material from the image. Authorities have not released further information about the girl.
The case comes as law enforcement agencies confront the use of generative artificial intelligence to create sexual images involving children or to manipulate ordinary photographs into abusive material. In Mayberry’s case, however, investigators allege the seized devices contained both AI-generated material and other child sexual abuse material, along with recordings allegedly made without the knowledge of women and girls in public places.
NBC10 reported that it contacted Mayberry’s attorney and representatives of the King of Prussia Mall for comment but had not received responses when its report was published. Authorities have not publicly announced whether additional alleged victims have been identified or whether further charges are being considered.
Mayberry posted bail after his arrest and is awaiting further court proceedings. His next preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30, according to the report. The charges remain allegations unless proven in court.
