CHICAGO, IL – A young boy and a man were critically wounded after gunfire struck their home in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood on Monday evening. According to local police, the 7-year-old child and a 27-year-old male were in their residence situated on South Yale Avenue when someone in a white Audi sedan initiated an attack, shooting at their home.
Emergency personnel responded, dispatching the child to Comer Children’s Hospital. There he was treated for a severe gunshot injury to his back and a graze wound to his head.
The 27-year-old man, after sustaining gunshot wounds to his arm and chest, was rushed to Christ Hospital, where he is also in critical care.
Rosie Liggins, mother and grandmother to the victims, indicated that the family gathered at home in anticipation of a night of pizza and movies when the attack took place. The 7-year-old boy was in the dining room when he was hit.
Liggins reported that a total of nine bullet holes had been left in her home as a result of the shooting. She described the harrowing experience when she was called upon to attend to her wounded son and grandson simultaneously.
Liggins and her family believe they were purposively targeted in this attack. Thus far, no arrests have been made during the ongoing police investigation.
