PHILADELPHIA, PA – A man and a woman were found dead in a parked SUV early Thursday morning in Philadelphia’s Mantua neighborhood, the victims of a violent shooting. Police are currently on the hunt for two suspects believed to be responsible for the deadly attack.
Authorities revealed that the suspects unleashed a barrage of gunfire, with nearly 20 bullets penetrating both sides of the vehicle around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The victims have been identified as 53-year-old Keemo Vaughn from Upper Darby and 28-year-old Tara Wynn from Tobyhanna Township in the Poconos.
The SUV, with its engine still running, was discovered at the intersection of Union and Folsom Streets. Vaughn was found in the driver’s seat, while Wynn was seated in the front passenger seat. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives have obtained crucial video footage from police crime cameras positioned just north of the shooting site. The footage reportedly shows two male suspects emerging from a vacant lot on the 700 block of Union Street, approaching the SUV, and opening fire.
The suspects fled the scene through the same vacant lot they had used to approach the vehicle. Despite the video evidence, investigators are still trying to determine the relationship between the victims and what they were doing in the area at the time of the shooting.
Police are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward as they continue their investigation. The community remains on edge as the search for the gunmen intensifies.
As detectives work around the clock to piece together the events leading up to the shooting, the city grapples with yet another instance of gun violence. The tragic loss of life underscores the urgent need for solutions to the ongoing violence plaguing the area.
The Philadelphia Police Department has increased patrols in the Mantua neighborhood, hoping to prevent further incidents and reassure residents of their safety. Meanwhile, the families of the victims are left to mourn their loved ones as they await answers.
