A man has been apprehended in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Brooklyn father who confronted him for taking pictures of his cousin last month. The suspect, identified as Roger Collado, 38, was arrested on Wednesday and now faces charges of murder, assault, and weapon possession. The incident took place on July 18th at the corner of Roebling Street and South 9th Street in Williamsburg. Collado had allegedly been harassing the victim, Severiano “John” Reyes, and two of his relatives that evening, leading to a confrontation that turned deadly.
According to law enforcement sources, Roger Collado was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon. He has since been charged with murder, as well as two counts of assault and weapon possession. The arrest is in connection to the stabbing of 36-year-old Severiano “John” Reyes on July 18 in Williamsburg. Reyes had confronted Collado after he repeatedly took pictures of Reyes’ cousin, escalating the clash between the two.
The altercation between Collado and Reyes intensified when the victim asked the suspect to stop taking pictures. In response, Collado allegedly plunged a knife into Reyes’ neck, resulting in a fatal injury. Despite being rushed to Bellevue Hospital, Reyes could not be saved. Two of Reyes’ relatives were also injured in the incident, with one suffering slash wounds to the neck and back, and the other being stabbed in the wrist. Both are currently in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
The family of Severiano Reyes has described Roger Collado as a deranged childhood classmate who held a long-standing grudge against the victim. Yvette Reyes, the victim’s sister, revealed that Collado approached her brother two weeks prior to the incident, claiming that something had been taken from him during their childhood. She believes the attack was premeditated murder. Yvette shared her grief on a GoFundMe page, stating that her brother was a good person and the family was unprepared for such a traumatic tragedy.
