HOUSTON, TX – A horrific incident in Houston ended with the arrest of 38-year-old Lee Mongerson Gilley, who faces a capital murder charge following accusations of killing his wife, Christa Gilley. Despite his initial claim to authorities that her death was the result of a suicide, an investigation revealed otherwise.
The disturbing event unfolded at the couple’s residence in the Heights neighborhood on Allston Street. On that fateful Monday night, Gilley called 911, stating that his wife had overdosed and taken her own life. Christa, who was also reportedly nine weeks pregnant, was the mother of two children present in the home during the incident.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the call, and Gilley mentioned to the dispatcher that he was conducting CPR on his wife. Nevertheless, Christa was declared dead upon reaching a nearby hospital.
Medical professionals and the county examiner found physical injuries on Christa’s body suggestive of strangulation. This contradiction to Lee’s overdose assertion led to growing suspicions. Notably, Lee confessed during questioning that Christa had no history of suicidal tendencies or drug abuse.
Authorities disclosed that an argument between the couple had occurred prior to Christa’s demise, adding a layer of complexity to the case. This and the medical examiner’s findings led law enforcement to detain Lee on Friday, four days post-incident.
He is currently held at Harris County Jail as the investigation continues. The incident highlights the profound consequences of domestic disturbances and its impact on families involved.
The loss of Christa has rippled through the community, raising awareness about the potential warning signs and tragedies associated with domestic disputes. Further proceedings are awaited to elaborate on details surrounding the case.
