Longtime resident Harrell Irving was among those who witnessed the commotion. At 84, she was opening her front door to welcome the morning light when she was met with flashing police lights instead. Her fears are not unfounded; police records indicate that over the past year, there have been 262 calls within a half-mile radius of Friday’s shooting, including reports of homicides, assaults, and robberies.
