BRONX, NY – In a tragic turn of events, a 58-year-old man who was randomly assaulted on a Bronx street last month has died from his injuries. The incident occurred on August 4 near Jerome Avenue and West Mosholu Parkway North in Norwood, where Dequan Jackson, 29, allegedly attacked the victim from behind. This unprompted attack caused the victim to fall onto the street.
The victim was quickly transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he ultimately lost his life over a month later, on September 7.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released as authorities await to notify his family. Initially arrested at the scene, Jackson, who has a history of 10 prior arrests, including ones for assault, reckless endangerment, grand larceny, and criminal possession of a weapon, faced assault charges. These charges are now likely to be upgraded due to the victim’s death.
Jackson, a Bronx resident, also faced legal issues in 2021 when he was charged with assaulting his 5-year-old daughter. During his arraignment for the August assault, he pleaded not guilty and was released without bail.
He is scheduled to return to court on September 17. The legal proceedings moving forward will determine the final outcome of the charges against Jackson.
