BROOKLYN, NY – A grim chapter drew closer to resolution as authorities charged a man in connection with a violent incident that occurred over six years ago, resulting in a tragic death. Gary Anderson, 34, was led away in handcuffs from the 81st Precinct, facing serious charges that include first and second-degree manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide.
The incident dates back to June 2017, when 38-year-old Amigo Diego Tapia was cycling along Fulton Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. A sudden, unprovoked punch from Anderson caused Tapia to crash to the pavement, suffering severe head trauma that left him in a coma. Despite hopes for recovery, Tapia succumbed to his injuries in March of last year.
At the time of the initial attack, Tapia’s family held a vigil, clinging to the hope that he would recover. His wife and two young sons were among those praying for his return to health, a hope that was ultimately in vain.
