Sheriff Mitchell Mixon said four children, ages 7 to 10, were abused in a case that began in late 2023.
GEORGE COUNTY, MS — A 49-year-old man has been extradited to George County and charged after investigators said four children reported sexual and physical abuse tied to incidents that allegedly happened over several years.
Tony K. Fairley is being held at the George County Regional Correctional Facility on a total bond of $800,000, according to the George County Sheriff’s Office. The case involves four children, ages 7 to 10, Sheriff Mitchell Mixon said. Fairley faces charges that include sexual battery, child abuse, molestation and grooming. Authorities have not released many details about the victims, the exact dates of the alleged abuse or how Fairley knew the children.
The investigation began in late 2023 after reports were made to law enforcement, Mixon said. Investigators later accused Fairley of three counts of sexual battery and two counts of child abuse after multiple people came forward. Fairley was previously arrested in Baldwin County, Alabama, following the George County investigation. After he was returned to Mississippi, investigators added one count of molestation and one count of grooming. “It is a difficult case for the victims, because a lot of times the children at a young age like that, many of them will not speak out until later,” Mixon said. He said the case also has been hard for families and parents who learned what investigators say happened to their children.
The sheriff’s office said the reports involved alleged incidents over several years. Officials have not said whether all of the alleged crimes happened in George County or whether any part of the case remains under review in Alabama. The office also has not released a full timeline of when each report was made, when warrants were issued or when Fairley was arrested in Baldwin County. The charges listed by the sheriff’s office include three counts of sexual battery, each with a $200,000 bond, two counts of child abuse, one count of molestation and one count of grooming. The child abuse, molestation and grooming counts each carried a $50,000 bond.
George County sits in southeast Mississippi near the Alabama line, and the case involved cooperation between agencies in two states. Mixon said investigators worked to bring Fairley back to George County to face the charges. The sheriff’s office described the investigation as extensive and said several people reported alleged abuse before the arrest and extradition. Officials did not say whether the children were interviewed by child advocacy specialists or whether medical records, school reports or other documents were part of the investigation. The sheriff’s office said the case shows its commitment to protecting victims and pursuing allegations involving children.
Fairley’s next steps will move through George County courts. The sheriff’s office said he remains jailed pending further legal proceedings. Court records or future hearings are expected to show whether Fairley has an attorney, whether he enters pleas to the charges and whether prosecutors seek any additional charges. The allegations remain charges unless proven in court. Authorities did not announce a court date in the first public reports of the case. The sheriff’s office also did not say whether more arrests are expected or whether investigators believe there may be additional victims.
Mixon said cases involving young children can take time because victims may not speak right away. “This case is a testament to the dedication of our investigators and our commitment to protecting victims in George County,” Mixon said. “We take these allegations extremely seriously and will continue to pursue justice for those affected.” He also thanked the agencies that helped return Fairley to George County. The sheriff said the office will continue to take reports of this kind seriously and work to bring investigations to a close.
Fairley remained in custody at the George County Regional Correctional Facility after his extradition. The next public milestone in the case is expected to come through court filings or a scheduled hearing in George County.
