SAN DIEGO, CA – A violent confrontation at a gas station located in the Redwood Village neighborhood resulted in the fatal stabbing of a 33-year-old man on Friday afternoon, according to police reports.
The San Diego Police Department arrived at the scene after receiving an emergency call about an assault on the 5900 block of University Avenue around 1:15 p.m. Upon arrival at the crime scene, police officers discovered the man, noticeably struggling, in the parking lot of the gas station.
Officers initiated first aid measures on the victim until emergency medical services arrived on the scene. The man was then transported to a local hospital for urgent care. However, he succumbed to his severe chest wound and was declared dead a short while later. The identity of the deceased man has been withheld for now until his next of kin can be notified.
According to the account provided by the San Diego Police Department, the perpetrator, also a 33-year-old man, was at the gas station filling his car when he was approached by the victim. Apparently, a heated argument developed between the two individuals, who were believed to have been acquainted with each other.
The police’s official statement indicates that the victim attacked the suspect, resulting in a physical altercation in the parking lot. After enduring multiple punches from the victim, the suspect retaliated with a knife. Following the stabbing, both men separated, with the victim seeking refuge inside the gas station.
The suspect, who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his face, waited by his vehicle until the arrival of the police. He was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries, then subsequently detained but was later released pending additional investigation. The suspect’s identity has not been released.
