Police found a 43-year-old man and 42-year-old woman critically wounded inside a North Philadelphia residence Saturday evening.
PHILADELPHIA, PA — A man fatally shot a woman before shooting himself inside a North Philadelphia home Saturday evening in what police are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said.
Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, to a residence in the 2300 block of North 18th Street. Police found a 43-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman with gunshot wounds on the second floor of the home. Both were taken to Temple University Hospital, where they died, according to police.
Philadelphia police Inspector D.F. Pace said investigators believe the man shot the woman inside the residence and then shot himself. Police recovered a firearm at the scene. The finding remained part of the department’s preliminary investigation.
Investigators believe the man and woman were involved in a relationship, police said. Authorities had not publicly identified either person in the initial reporting, and additional details about their relationship were not immediately released.
Police also had not released information about what may have led to the shooting. No motive was announced, and authorities did not disclose whether anyone else was inside the residence when the shooting occurred.
The deaths come as Philadelphia continues to investigate fatal shootings across the city. Preliminary Police Department statistics showed 121 homicides through Sept. 11, compared with 154 during the corresponding period in 2025. Police caution that crime figures can change as investigations develop and incidents are reclassified.
The North 18th Street case remains under investigation. Police had not announced additional findings or released the identities of the two people as of the latest available reports.
