HILLCREST HEIGHTS, MD – A shooting inside a Foot Locker near The Shops at Iverson resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man on Thursday, leaving the community shaken. Dominique Hodge of Washington, D.C., was the victim of the fatal incident that unfolded just before 6 p.m. while staff and shoppers were present in the store.
A police officer on patrol in the vicinity pursued three suspects seen fleeing the area. The chase ended with the apprehension of 19-year-old Andres Rodriguez-Corona from Waldorf, who now faces charges of first- and second-degree murder.
Authorities later arrested a second suspect, 22-year-old Carl Sanders from Washington, D.C., during a routine traffic stop. Upon searching his vehicle, officers discovered two unregistered firearms, known as ghost guns. Sanders has been charged with firearms offenses. Police continue to hunt for a third suspect involved in the incident.
Investigators meticulously combed through the crime scene, navigating between displays of athletic apparel to gather evidence. The store’s security system, equipped with surveillance cameras, could provide crucial footage aiding the investigation. Should these recordings prove beneficial, police intend to release them to the public to expedite the identification of suspects.
In response to longstanding concerns about safety in the mall area, a Prince George’s County law enforcement camera was installed in the parking lot. This location has previously been the site of violent encounters, including a shooting in the parking garage last year and a physical altercation two years ago that ended with multiple shootings.
Despite the incident, reports from the Prince George’s County police indicate a significant decline in crime, with a 22% reduction in offenses around Iverson Mall compared to the previous year. Efforts are ongoing to maintain public safety and address community worries.
While efforts to reach Foot Locker for an official comment have not yet been successful, the investigation continues as authorities seek to bring all responsible parties to justice.
