Man shot and killed by a neighbor who has a history of shooting neighbors

HOUSTON, TX – In a quiet neighborhood near the Gulf Freeway, the sound of gunfire shattered the stillness of the night, marking another chapter in a troubling saga of neighborly disputes. The incident unfolded when a confrontation between neighbors turned deadly, resulting in the tragic death of 39-year-old Douglas Hippie. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing moments leading up to the shooting, which has left the community on edge.

According to police, Hippie was shot by his 58-year-old next-door neighbor during a dispute that may have involved damaged property. The neighbor, who claims self-defense, was also involved in a separate shooting incident just six months prior, where two other neighbors were wounded. In that case, a grand jury decided not to press charges.

Christopher Gonzalez, Hippie’s brother-in-law, recounted the chilling sounds of gunfire he heard from inside his home. “There was a scuffle, and then shots,” he said, describing the moments before Hippie fell to the ground, as seen in the surveillance video. The video also captured Hippie’s painful cries before he succumbed to his injuries.

The neighborhood, troubled by the recurring violence, is demanding action. Karina Blast, president of the local civic club, expressed her frustration over the lack of resolution. “This should not have happened,” she stated, emphasizing the need for a community meeting with law enforcement to address ongoing concerns about safety.

Efforts to contact the neighbor involved in the shooting were unsuccessful, as he has not been charged and remains unidentified. Signs posted on his property warn against uninvited visitors, adding to the tense atmosphere in the area.

Records show that the suspect has owned his home on Desjardins Street since the late 1990s. The Harris County Precinct 6 constable’s office confirmed that there have been at least six calls for service to the address recently, including multiple disturbance reports.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of yet another shooting, the case now rests in the hands of a grand jury, which will determine whether charges are warranted. Residents anxiously await the outcome, hoping for a resolution that will restore peace to their neighborhood.
