WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A 22-year-old Ypsilanti man was shot by deputies after he reportedly stabbed a female driver and attempted to assault witnesses at a traffic accident site in Superior Township. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, as informed by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies received information about a severe accident in Superior Township slightly after 8 p.m. During their response, they were notified about a passenger in one of the vehicles who had allegedly stabbed the driver and was trying to attack witnesses at the scene.
On arrival, the deputies found the 22-year-old man from Ypsilanti armed with a knife. The police then shot him in an attempt to subdue him. It remains uncertain as to how many deputies fired shots or the number of bullets that were discharged.
Acting swiftly after shooting the man, the deputies offered him medical assistance, after which he was transported to a hospital for further treatment.
The driver, a 53-year-old woman who suffered multiple stab wounds in the assault, also received medical treatment at the hospital, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
The investigation of the incident has been handed over to the Michigan State Police. Due to the ongoing investigation, the road near Woodlands Drive has been temporarily closed.
