Man shot dead at family gathering

OXNARD, CA – Police in Oxnard are currently involved in an investigation surrounding the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Jose Juarez, which occurred in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The horrific scene unfolded at a local family gathering in the neighborhood, where Juarez had stepped out to check on two of his children who had remained home, according to his wife Cassandra.

Tragically, shortly after crossing the street to his home, Juarez was hit by a bullet near his residence on the 2100 block of Sierra Way at approximately 12:10 a.m. Struck down on the road, he suffered a single gunshot wound that led to him later being pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The Oxnard police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the fatal incident, and the available leads remain sparse. Sergeant Jess Aragon of the Oxnard police department divulged the uncertainties surrounding the investigation, saying, “The victim was crossing the street leaving a residence when he was shot in the roadway.”

Despite reports of multiple gunshots in the vicinity at midnight, police officials have not yet determined whether the incident was accidental or if there was a targeted motive behind Juarez’s untimely death. However, authorities have ruled out the possibility of celebratory gunfire falling from the sky as a cause for the fatal shooting.

Cassandra Juarez is now faced with the responsibility of looking after their five children in the wake of her husband’s death.

Despite the sheer devastation rebounding within the family, her children remain unaware of their father’s demise, believing he is merely hospitalized. To provide for her family in these trying times, Juarez has established a GoFundMe account soliciting funds to keep them afloat.
