Man shot to death at apartment complex

MIRAMAR, FL – A Miramar gated community became the crime scene of a fatal shooting on Thursday morning. Police have identified the deceased as Alec Mathew Hugh-Sam. At this point, it remains uncertain who the shooter is. Details about how the suspect fled are still unclear, but a perimeter was established to investigate and determine possible escape routes.

A resident of the complex, who wished to be referred to as “Tico,” recounted hearing a solitary gunshot around 7 a.m. and subsequently alerted 911. The immediate aftermath was filled with frantic cries from what he suspected to be the victim’s girlfriend. She was heard calling out the victim’s name and attempting to administer CPR.

Miramar police were on the scene in minutes. Sgt. Tiffany Roy reported that they responded to a call about the suspect having left the scene before their arrival.

Details about whether the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle are still unclear. Nevertheless, the heavy police presence in the area was due to the established perimeter for their search for the suspect.

Incidents like this are rare for that community. Another resident expressed his shock, saying, “I have no problem over here. So, this is the first time anything like that has happened, ever happened.”

The Miramar police have urged anyone with any information about the shooting to contact them or the Broward Crime Stoppers.
