CHICAGO, IL – A deadly exchange of gunfire Tuesday night in the Little Italy neighborhood has left one man dead and another seriously wounded. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in front of Jim’s Hot Dog stand on the 1200 block of South Union, according to Chicago police.
Authorities reported that individuals from a dark SUV and a red sedan stepped out of their vehicles and began firing at each other in full view of the popular hot dog stand. The confrontation resulted in two men being struck by bullets.
The first victim, identified as an adult male, was hit in the face. n Emergency responders transported him to Stroger Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The second individual, a 19-year-old man from the SUV, was initially taken to Rush Hospital before being transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his chest.
One eyewitness, who requested anonymity, described the chaotic scene. “I saw a red car pull up, and then two people got out, and they started shooting,” he said. According to the eyewitness, the shooters then pulled up to a corner and fatally shot the victim.
The circumstances that led up to the shooting remain unclear as police continue their investigation. As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
