NEW YORK, NY – A man accused of a series of brutal and unprovoked attacks on women in the Bronx was arrested following a spree that left several victims injured. Surveillance footage captured one of the assaults, in which a woman was beaten with a pipe, highlighting the random nature of the violence.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Jeremiah White, had previously been released from jail despite facing charges for attacking two other women in the area over the past month. This has raised questions about why he was free to commit further offenses.
Virginia Alvarez, one of the victims, recounted her harrowing experience. Attacked while on her way to work, she described how the assailant shouted incoherent accusations before repeatedly punching and hitting her with a pipe. Alvarez was hospitalized with facial fractures, head lacerations, and broken fingers.
Following the attack on Alvarez, White allegedly targeted a 15-year-old girl, striking her in the head with a metal pipe in the Morrisania neighborhood. Hours later, he reportedly punched a 54-year-old woman in the face before being apprehended by police.
Authorities confirmed White was on supervised release at the time of the attacks. The decision to release him, despite previous charges, has sparked outrage and concern among the victims and the community.
Alvarez, a certified nurse’s aide, expressed her disbelief and frustration at the system that allowed this to happen. She is now unable to work due to her injuries but remains resilient, urging others in similar situations to stay strong and positive.
The 15-year-old victim was treated at a hospital and is recovering, while the 54-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and is reported to be doing well.
Jeremiah White has been arraigned on three counts of assault. This time, authorities are taking no chances with his release.
