Marine veteran killed while working as an Uber driver

HOUSTON, TX – A family is seeking answers after a Marine veteran, working as an Uber driver, was found dead on the side of a road in Northwest Harris County. The victim, affectionately known as Jake, was discovered overnight on Lakewood Forest Drive near Cypherswood Drive.

Investigators report that Jake, whose real name was Kuyu, was shot and killed late Monday night. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a passerby in the Lakewood West neighborhood spotted him lying on the roadside and alerted authorities.

Initially, officials suspected a hit-and-run incident. However, further investigation revealed that Jake had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Neighbors expressed their disbelief, noting that such violence is uncommon in their area. A memorial cross has since been placed at the site to honor Jake’s memory.

Authorities are still determining whether the shooting occurred at the location where Jake was found or if he was moved there after being shot elsewhere. The uncertainty adds to the family’s anguish as they await more information.

Jake, a Marine veteran, was pursuing a career as an EMT to support his single mother and two younger sisters. His dedication to his family was evident through his work as an Uber driver.

Uber has described Jake’s death as a devastating tragedy and confirmed their cooperation with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
