Perry Green, 46, is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping after the attack in a Texas Medical Center garage.
HOUSTON, TX — A Houston Methodist Hospital technician escaped a man who zip-tied and stabbed her inside a Texas Medical Center parking garage Monday morning, according to court records describing an attack that led to robbery and kidnapping charges.
The case moved forward Thursday after Houston police confirmed the arrest of 46-year-old Perry Green. Investigators said Metro light rail video, parking garage footage and an Instagram account helped connect Green to the attack. The woman survived after fighting inside her car, opening a passenger door with her toes and running for help.
The stabbing happened shortly before 7 a.m. Monday on the fifth floor of Texas Medical Center Garage 1 at 6519 Fannin Street. Police said the employee had just parked for work when she was attacked inside her vehicle. Houston Methodist later said parts of the campus were briefly locked down because of the incident. “At this time, there is no indication of an active or imminent threat to our campus,” the hospital system said after the attack.
Court records state the woman was on the driver’s side of her car getting her belongings when a man approached. She became startled and fell toward the passenger side, then began kicking and screaming as the man attacked her, records state. During the struggle, she tried several times to press the horn with her head to draw attention. Investigators said Green then used zip ties that were already in the car to bind her.
Records state Green demanded the woman’s debit cards and keys during the attack. After he got them, he started the vehicle’s engine, investigators said. The woman told police she screamed through the encounter and kept fighting until she was able to open the passenger-side door with her toes. She then escaped from the car and found help. Records state she suffered seven stab wounds to the chest, three cuts to her face and other stab wounds on her body.
Two brothers who were in the garage tried to chase the attacker, records state, but stopped after seeing a small knife with an orange handle. They then helped the injured woman. Investigators said video showed a suspect parking a Nissan van marked with an EMF dispensary logo at the Fannin South station, riding the Metro light rail to the Dryden stop, getting out and later returning to the van after the attack.
Police said investigators matched the van to Green’s Instagram account, which appeared to show the same vehicle and Green wearing a matching shirt. Green was arrested Wednesday evening. He is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping. Court records cited by investigators say the kidnapping charge is tied to allegations that the woman was bound and kept inside the car while Green tried to take the vehicle and other property.
The attack rattled workers, patients and visitors in one of Houston’s busiest medical districts. Houston Methodist said it increased security visibility after the stabbing. Police initially released images of the suspect and said the attack did not appear to be targeted. The woman was treated after the stabbing, and her mother said her daughter was recovering and the family was taking it “day by day.”
Green appeared before a magistrate judge Thursday. A bail decision was referred to District Judge Brian Warren, and prosecutors asked for a separate hearing to argue that bail should be denied. Court records list prior convictions, including aggravated robbery, burglary, drug possession and forgery. Green’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
The case remained active Friday as investigators continued reviewing video and records connected to the garage, rail stops and vehicle. No additional suspects had been announced.
