ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Authorities in St. Petersburg have identified a suspect in a horrifying case that has left the community in shock. Investigators allege that Stephen Gress, 35, kidnapped, murdered, and dismembered 16-year-old Miranda Corset before disposing of her remains. The case has unfolded over the past two weeks, with detectives piecing together the gruesome details.
Police believe Gress took Corset’s body to a dumpster in Ruskin, but by the time investigators arrived, the remains had likely been transported to a landfill. As the investigation continues, officials are also seeking Michelle Brandis, who they believe was with Gress during the disposal of the body. The community is reeling from the violence of these alleged crimes, with many expressing disbelief and outrage.
Residents in the area have been left in disbelief. “You never think something like this could happen so close to home,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. The violent nature of the crime has left many feeling unsafe and concerned for the safety of their community.
Chief Anthony Holloway revealed that Corset was lured to meet Gress through a social media app on Valentine’s Day. An argument over a piece of jewelry allegedly escalated, leading to her being beaten and tortured between February 20 and 24. The details of the attack are harrowing, leaving the community grappling with the senselessness of the act.
Following the murder, Gress and Brandis allegedly transported the body to a residence in Largo, which authorities say belongs to Brandis’s mother. It was there, according to police, that Corset’s body was dismembered before being taken to Ruskin for disposal.
Chief Holloway has issued a public plea for Brandis to surrender to authorities. “Michelle, if you’re out there, we urge you to turn yourself in,” he stated. He also warned anyone assisting her that they could face legal consequences. As of now, Brandis has not been charged, but witnesses have placed her at the scene during the transportation of Corset’s body.
The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement working tirelessly to bring closure to the case. Meanwhile, the community remains on edge, mourning the loss of a young life and hoping for justice.
