Mom killed, two kids injured in alleged DUI crash

A devastating event took place in Hesperia this week when a mother from Victorville lost her life, and her two young children were severely injured due to a vehicular collision involving an alleged drunk driver.

The victim, Lisette Villasenor, 36, met a tragic end in the accident. Her 6-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter also sustained significant injuries.

The alleged drunk driver, Jose Vargas, 41, a resident of Adelanto, has been apprehended and charged with causing the accident under the influence of alcohol.

The collision occurred shortly after 6:31 on the evening of Thursday, May 11th. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department provided details of the incident. Villasenor was heading south on Highway 395, just north of Poplar Street, driving a Toyota Prius.

Simultaneously, Vargas was driving his Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on the same highway. Vargas reportedly maneuvered his SUV into the oncoming traffic lane, resulting in a head-on collision with Villasenor’s vehicle.

Following the accident, Villasenor and her children were rushed to a regional trauma center. Unfortunately, Villasenor succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her children sustained injuries ranging from moderate to severe, as stated by officials.

Remarkably, Vargas escaped the accident unscathed. However, investigations at the scene revealed that Vargas was driving while intoxicated and exceeded the state’s legal limit at the time of the incident. Consequently, he was arrested at the scene.

The law enforcement authorities continue to investigate this tragic incident further.
