CHICAGO, IL – A concealed-carry license holder in Chicago reportedly fired her gun for the first time in years when she perceived a threat coming through her daughter’s bedroom window on Saturday night. Despite repairs to the shattered exterior window, the shock of the incident remains vivid for the South Shore family.
The mother stated that the terrifying event occurred just before 11 p.m. when her 18-year-old daughter had just returned to her room after bathing. She discovered a man attempting to break in through her window.
Reacting swiftly, the mother threatened the intruder, proclaiming she had a weapon and would not hesitate to use it. When the suspect didn’t desist, the mother fired a warning shot, not realizing that the bullet hit its mark.
Police arrived on the scene in East 69th near Oglesby to discover a 36-year-old suspect shot in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries described as ‘fair condition’. Despite the frightful incident, the family expressed hope that the suspect would remember the incident’s unsettling repercussions before attempting to invade someone else’s property again.
The mother expressed regret that police confiscated her weapon and shared her hope of relocating her family soon. She cautioned potential criminals about the unpredictability of what might await them on the other side of a window they were violating.
The charges against the shot suspect are still pending.
