Mother in custody after 5-year-old boy stabbed

NEWARK, NJ – A mother has been taken into custody following a distressing incident where a 5-year-old boy was stabbed in Newark, as reported by the local police. The incident unfolded a little after 5 p.m. when authorities responded to a call reporting a child being stabbed at 20 Murray Street in Newark. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered a 5-year-old boy with stab wounds.

The young victim was promptly transported to University Hospital. According to reports, the child is currently listed in stable condition. In connection with the incident, the boy’s mother has been detained for questioning by Newark detectives as they work diligently to unravel the details of what transpired inside their home.

According to neighbors, they occasionally saw a young boy at backyard gatherings. Regardless of these sightings, they believed that for the most part the residence was occupied by an elderly couple who moved in approximately 2 to 3 years ago.

One neighbor expressed shock at the incident, saying, “It was a little kid, used to be in the back. I guess all the family goes there when they cook. They do barbecues in the backyard. Never had no problems. For it to happen, very weird. That’s very disturbing.”

The investigation into this unsettling incident is ongoing. Authorities are providing no further information at this time.
