Mother killed in hospital beating

BRONX, NY – A homicide investigation is underway at a Bronx hospital following the death of 55-year-old Cynthia Vann, who was reportedly beaten inside Lincoln Hospital. Her grieving family is demanding justice, claiming they know the perpetrator but remain baffled as to why the individual was released by authorities.

Family members gathered at the Sherman Avenue Community Garden, a place where Vann frequently spent time, to commemorate her birthday. Vann, a devoted daughter, sister, and mother, was seeking treatment for a liver condition when the tragic incident occurred.

Tanisha, Vann’s daughter, expressed her determination to pursue justice for her mother, who passed away nearly two weeks ago. The family alleges that Vann was attacked by her hospital roommate, Raquel Horton, who reportedly struck her multiple times on September 10.

The assault left Vann with severe injuries, necessitating brain surgery. Before the procedure, Vann reported the attack to hospital staff, both verbally and in writing. Despite these reports, no immediate arrest was made.

Horton was later arrested for assaulting a hospital aide, but authorities stated there was insufficient evidence at the time to charge her with the attack on Vann. The Bronx District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the investigation into Vann’s death is ongoing.

Vann’s family, along with their legal team, is conducting an independent investigation, vowing to uncover any systemic failures that may have contributed to the tragedy. They are also urging hospital officials to cooperate fully with the investigation.

The Bronx DA’s office noted that Horton was initially held on bail for the assault on the hospital aide, but a judge released her a week later, contrary to the DA’s recommendations.

Efforts to reach Lincoln Hospital and Horton for comments have been unsuccessful. A spokesperson for New York City Health and Hospitals, which oversees Lincoln Hospital, emphasized their commitment to patient safety.

As the investigation continues, Vann’s family remains steadfast in their quest for answers and accountability.
