VACAVILLE, CA – In a fatal incident in Northern California, Vacaville motorcycle officer Matthew Bowen lost his life during a routine traffic stop when he was struck by a vehicle driven by an allegedly impaired driver. The accident occurred on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Serena C.J. Rodriguez, reportedly attempted to flee the scene after the crash but was restrained by bystanders.
Investigations revealed that Rodriguez was driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the fatal incident. She has since been arrested and faces charges including homicide and driving under the influence causing injury and/or death.
Officer Bowen was taken to a hospital for treatment after the collision took place. However, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital. Bowen, who is survived by his wife, two sons, parents, and a brother, had served the Vacaville Police Department with distinction for a year after transferring from the Concord Police Department.
