Murder-suicide shooting leaves 6-year-old wounded

SHARPSBURG, NC – Early Sunday morning, a 6-year-old child was injured during a murder-suicide incident in Wilson County, according to official statements.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office first received a report around 5 a.m. about an incident on Weaver Circle in Sharpsburg. When authorities arrived at the scene, officers discovered a male victim who was lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. They also found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Both victims were rushed to Vidant Hospital for surgeries.

The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of the suspect, Daquan Marcato Jones, 32, resident of Leggett Road, Rocky Mount. After fleeing the initial scene of the shooting, Jones dropped off a 6-year-old child at a residence in Nash County. The child was also suffering from a gunshot wound when they were dropped off, and is now undergoing treatment at a medical facility.

Officers traced Jones to a residence on Jamie Road in Nash County, after which the Nash County Sheriff’s Office SRT Team was mobilized, with the Wilson County Sheriff Office SRT Team on standby. Upon entering the residence, they found Jones deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Further investigations uncovered another victim, found deceased in the car that Jones had been driving when he left the site of the shooting on Weaver Circle.
