LAKE WALES, FL – An officer and his K-9 partner are recovering after a dramatic incident involving a high-speed pursuit and a fleeing suspect. Officer Shawn Robertson and his K-9, Bolo, were dragged several feet by a vehicle driven by Marlin Arendelle, who was stopped for speeding.
The encounter began when Officer Robertson pulled Arendelle over for driving 30 miles per hour over the speed limit, a significant violation under Florida’s revised traffic laws. Upon being stopped, Arendelle became confrontational, questioning the reason for the traffic stop.
As Officer Robertson attempted to detain him, the situation escalated. Arendelle sped off, causing both the officer and his K-9 to be caught and dragged by the vehicle. Fortunately, another officer later located Arendelle and his vehicle on East Bay Boulevard.
Body camera footage captured the tense moment when Arendelle was instructed to show his hands and was subsequently arrested. He received treatment for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
Lieutenant Dale Hampton reported that Officer Robertson and Bolo visited the police station on Thursday. Although both are in good spirits, Bolo is still limping and both have upcoming medical appointments. The K-9, known for his dedication, is eager to return to duty.
Arendelle is currently held without bond, with a pre-trial detention hearing scheduled for Monday afternoon.
