PHILADELPHIA, PA – A school public safety resource officer was shot early this morning while on duty, following a violent encounter linked to a road rage incident. Authorities responded to the scene at Christopher Columbus Boulevard and Callowhill Street shortly before 2 a.m., where they discovered the officer had been shot multiple times.
Investigators are connecting the shooting to an earlier road rage confrontation on I-95, involving a white Hyundai SUV and a black Dodge pickup truck. Allegedly, an individual in the Hyundai brandished a firearm at occupants of the Dodge.
The occupants of the pickup truck reportedly sought assistance from law enforcement after the incident. They flagged down the officer, believing him to be able to help, and recounted the events that transpired on the highway.
Upon receiving the report, the officer attempted to investigate or intervene in the situation. However, during this process, someone from the Hyundai opened fire, striking the officer.
Despite his injuries, the officer attempted to drive himself to the hospital but crashed his vehicle en route. He is currently in critical condition, according to police.
Authorities continue their search for the suspects involved in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
