One dead, four injured in boat explosion

DANIA BEACH, FL – A massive explosion at Nautical Ventures Marina left one worker dead and four others injured as they were prepping a 50-foot boat for an upcoming show. The blast, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, sent shockwaves through the boating community and beyond.

The victim, identified informally as Benjamin by colleagues, was a technician revered for his dedication. Though the loss was profoundly felt by those who knew him, authorities have not officially confirmed his identity or his reported heritage from Paraguay.

Witnesses, including Edward Hoch, a frequent visitor to the marina, described the incident as an unfortunate tragedy, expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved. “I feel for the family first and foremost,” Hoch remarked, lamenting the sudden loss of a man he respected.

Marina employees reported that the explosion happened as Benjamin was refueling the boat, a risky operation, particularly with regular gasoline. The potential for sparks or grounding issues presents inherent dangers during such processes, as noted by Hoch.

The aftermath was a scene of chaos, with firefighters working diligently to contain persistent hot spots. Onlookers captured footage of towering smoke and flames continuing to engulf the boat, even as debris rained down onto an adjacent RV park.

Resident Mark Weiss described the blast’s enormity, having video evidence of the flames that followed. “Something went horribly wrong,” he reflected, acknowledging the widespread impact of the mishap.

As the investigation led by the Florida State Fire Marshal advances, Nautical Ventures Marina pledges full cooperation. CEO Roger Moore issued a statement assuring the community of their commitment to support all affected individuals and assist authorities in uncovering the cause of the explosion.
