One dead, two injured in shooting spree

FOREST PARK, GA – Last Friday’s dual-shooting spree in Forest Park left one person dead and two others injured. 43-year-old victim Brandon Harris was named by local police on Saturday.

Forest Park Police reported the first incident around 10:30 a.m., and by noon, local buildings and schools were on lockdown. An “armed and dangerous” suspect was on the run. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Victor Demetrious Baymon, was reported to have followed an ex-girlfriend to a store where she intended to complete her taxes.

Forest Park Police Chief, Brandon Criss, said, “The ex-girlfriend was getting her taxes done and the person he shot was the person preparing those taxes.” Among the victims was this tax preparer.

After the convenience store shooting, Baymon allegedly stole a vehicle then drove to an apartment complex, where another vehicle was stolen. Baymon continued on his rampage, shooting a man at a private residence.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were all involved in the manhunt. Baymon, considered dangerous and armed was driving a gray Dodge Avenger; the public was cautioned against approaching him and urged to notify Forest Park Police of any sightings.

The suspected shooter was apprehended late Friday afternoon, after a car chase by the Powder Springs Police Department (PSPD), whose system had identified the stolen vehicle he was driving.

Following a high-speed crash, Baymon, though injured, is expected to recover. Once released from hospital care, Baymon is to be moved to Clayton County Jail. He faces charges, including malice murder, armed robbery, motor vehicle hijacking, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Two additional shooting victims were hospitalized and are currently in surgery. Their conditions remain unknown.
