MASPETH, NY – A peaceful afternoon in Queens turned into a scene of chaos when a toddler fell from a second-floor balcony on 52nd Avenue in Maspeth. The incident occurred when the nearly two-year-old boy plummeted from a balcony with a black railing, landing on the driveway below, approximately 10 to 15 feet down.
Witnesses reported that the young child was attempting to observe older children playing beneath the balcony when he climbed the railing. Tragically, he lost his balance and fell headfirst. A neighbor, who watched the incident unfold, described the terrifying moment, noting that the railing was lower than expected, barely reaching the waist of a building inspector who later examined the site.
The child’s mother rushed out of the house in distress, finding her son unconscious. Neighbors immediately called emergency services, and the boy was swiftly transported to Weill Cornell Hospital. Initially in critical condition, the child’s status has fortunately been upgraded to stable.
