Deputies arrested a suspect following an hourslong standoff and the discovery of a concealed space inside a commercial building.
CORNELIUS, OR — Police arrested a 42-year-old man on attempted murder and sex abuse charges after a teenager reported an assault that led investigators to a secret room inside a local commercial plaza.
The investigation began when a juvenile victim ran into the Cornelius Police Department to report a violent assault nearby. The report triggered an immediate tactical response at a business complex, where deputies found the suspect barricaded with weapons. Law enforcement officers subsequently searched the property and uncovered a concealed space where they believe the crimes occurred. The case has prompted local authorities to launch a broader search for potential additional victims across the region.
The incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 when the young victim arrived at the police station seeking help. Deputies traced the suspect, identified as Daniel Le Brun, to a commercial suite inside the Plaza Grande complex on North Adair Street. Le Brun barricaded himself inside the facility and refused commands to surrender. He armed himself with knives and several less-lethal firearm replicas. Special tactical teams and crisis negotiators arrived at the scene shortly after. Officers flew a drone inside the building to track Le Brun’s movements safely. The standoff ended at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Aug. 28 when tactical officers moved in and took him into custody without gunfire.
Following the arrest, emergency responders transported Le Brun to a local hospital after learning he had ingested a potentially lethal quantity of medication during the standoff. He remained under medical care for five days before hospital officials released him into police custody. Investigators executing a search warrant at the business complex discovered a concealed room built into the facility structure. Detectives gathered physical evidence from the hidden area and confirmed that key elements of the alleged assault took place within the room. Officers formally booked Le Brun into the Washington County Jail on Sept. 1.
Prosecutors filed multiple felony counts against Le Brun following his release from the hospital. The charges include first-degree attempted murder, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, and unlawful use of a weapon. Court records indicate that Le Brun remains held without bail pending his initial court appearances. Defense attorneys have not issued public statements regarding the allegations against him.
Detectives expressed strong concern that other children may have interacted with the suspect prior to his arrest. Le Brun had regular access to minors through his business connection to a memorabilia and gaming shop operating inside the plaza. Investigators noted that young people frequently visited the commercial complex during regular business hours. Law enforcement officers are reviewing business records, visitor logs, and digital devices seized from the premises to determine if other incidents occurred.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office urged parents and community members to report any suspicious interactions involving the suspect. Detectives asked anyone who witnessed unusual activity at the plaza or has relevant details to contact the violent crimes unit. Sheriff’s representatives emphasized that public assistance remains crucial to completing the timeline of events. “Detectives are concerned that additional victims have not been identified,” the sheriff’s office stated in an official agency release.
Le Brun remains in custody at the Washington County Jail awaiting his next preliminary hearing scheduled in circuit court. Detectives continue to examine evidence retrieved from the concealed room while outreach workers provide support services to the victim.
