NORCO, CA – Over the weekend, a series of vehicular crashes resulted in the death of a passenger as well as a horse on a Southern California interstate, stated authorities. The crash sequence started at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday with a Toyota Tacoma, towing a horse trailer, hitting a guardrail on I-15 heading north near Norco. This information was shared by the California Highway Patrol.
The force of the collision split the horse trailer and left the horse stranded on the freeway. Subsequently, to add to the string of unfortunate events, a semitractor trailer crashed into the horse trailer.
The injured horse, attempting to cross the interstate, was then struck by a black Honda Accord, said Javier Navarro, a highway patrol officer.
Further, a gray Honda Accord hit the horse, which catapulted through the car’s windshield. The front-seat passenger of the car, a 25-year-old man, lost his life due to the impact, and the horse suffered a fatal injury too. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old man who was driving the Honda sustained minor injuries.
Javier Navarro mentioned that although investigations were ongoing to determine what led to the initial guardrail collision involving the Toyota, no arrests have been made as of yet.
