Police investigate suspicious death of 7-year-old boy

The Attorney General of New Hampshire, John Formella, has sadly reported that a seven year old boy from the state has passed away. Jaevion Riley died on Tuesday of this week at a hospital in Massachusetts, only days after police had responded to a call from a Manchester home due to the boy being found unconscious and having visible burns on his face and body.

The Medical Examiner in Massachusetts will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death, but the results may not be known for some time.

Murtadah Mohammad, a 25-year-old father, is facing a number of charges, which include first and second-degree assault, falsifying physical evidence, and endangerment of a child’s welfare.

Reports from court documents stated that Mohammad told first responders he was in the shower when his son was injured, and he didn’t what happened. However, first responders noted there was no proof of someone having taken a shower recently, and there were other inconsistent facts in his explanation.

Rainah Riley, the mother of the child, informed NBC10 Boston that her son had slipped into a coma and the hospital described the injuries as a form of “torture, mutilation, and brutilization”. She stated that Jaevion had sustained skull and rib fractures, bleeding in the brain, lung harm, harsh burns and more.

Riley shared that Mohammad had recently been granted joint custody of Jaevion. She further explained that she had attempted to alert the New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth and Families of any possible signs of abuse. However, her reports were not acted upon.
