Police Recover Kidnap Victim From Tarzana Home

Two men were arrested as officers searched a Hatteras Street property and investigated whether another person remained outstanding.

TARZANA, CA — Los Angeles police recovered a possible kidnapping victim who was described as safe and arrested two men Tuesday during an hours-long operation at a home in Tarzana, authorities said.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded shortly after 10 a.m. Oct. 27 to a home near Hatteras Street and Lindley Avenue in the San Fernando Valley community. The two men were believed to be connected to a possible kidnapping, but police had not released their names or explained what led investigators to the property.

Police said the victim was recovered safely. Authorities did not release the person’s name, age, gender or condition beyond saying the victim was safe. Details about when or where the suspected kidnapping began also were not immediately made public.

The police activity prompted restrictions in the surrounding residential area while officers worked at the property. Some nearby residents were told to remain inside their homes, while others on the cul-de-sac were asked to leave during the operation. Residents were later allowed to return.

Authorities continued working at the scene after the two arrests because investigators believed a third person might still be outstanding. Police had not released a description of that person or clarified the individual’s suspected role in the case.

A separate report citing a videographer at the scene said police remained at the property for several hours while searching for another possible suspect. Officers forced their way into the home at about 3 p.m., according to that account, though it was not immediately clear whether anyone else was found inside.

Witnesses at the scene described the property as containing two residences used as short-term rentals. Police had not publicly confirmed those details or said whether the rental status of the property had any connection to the investigation.

Investigators also had not disclosed whether the two arrested men had been formally booked on kidnapping allegations or other offenses. No charges had been announced, and authorities had not released information about any possible motive, relationship among the people involved or evidence recovered from the property.

The investigation remained ongoing early Wednesday, with key details about the suspected kidnapping and the possible third individual still undisclosed by police.
