Police shoot suspect in domestic violence confrontation

SACRAMENTO, CA – A domestic violence call quickly spiraled into chaos along the Sacramento River late Friday morning, leading to an officer-involved shooting and a suspect in the hospital. Police responded to a 911 call around 11:50 a.m. reporting a domestic dispute involving a weapon near I Street and Riverfront Boulevard.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a man armed with a gun. The suspect fled the scene, prompting a pursuit along the river’s shoreline. Despite initially losing sight of him, officers managed to track him down with the aid of additional units and a police canine.

As the confrontation unfolded south of a nearby park, the situation escalated to gunfire. Two officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect at least once. The man, described as being in his 30s, was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The Sacramento Police Department has launched an investigation into the shooting, with their internal affairs unit and crime scene investigators taking charge. The local District Attorney’s office has also been notified, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

Authorities revealed that the suspect had an active felony warrant, and two firearms were recovered in the vicinity of the shooting. Police have confirmed that all officers involved were unharmed, and there were no injuries to bystanders.
