Postal worker shot to death while on the job

CHICAGO, IL – A postal worker, identified as 48-year-old Octavia Redmond from Chicago, was tragically shot and killed while performing her duties in the West Pullman neighborhood on Friday.

The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue. Witnesses stated that an unidentified male approached Redmond while she was delivering mail in front of a residence, shot her multiple times, and then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Redmond was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased. The loss has shaken the local community, with residents expressing their sorrow and disbelief.

As of Friday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and the Chicago Police Department’s Area 2 detectives continue to investigate the case. Authorities are currently reaching out to the local community, going door to door and seeking out any surveillance cameras that might have captured footage of the incident.

Elise Foster, president of the local letter carriers union, stated that this tragic event could have been prevented.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has announced a reward of up to $250,000 for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. Spencer Block, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, emphasized the gravity of the situation.
